Filozofia - pravda

Znalosť niektorých princípov a postupov ľahko kompenzuje neznalosti niektorých skutočností.

Southwestern Company

Southwestern Advantage - Internship for university students.

Samozrejme sme len ľudia a nemôžeme si všetko pamätať a preto niekto ostane na začiatku leta veľmi prekvapení z toho čo ho v živote čaká.

Okrem iného, tu často nájdete motivačné videjká ktoré so Southwestern Company vôbec nesúvisia.

Job interview, strategy ( students ) - tips #2

In first part of this article, we have discussed some questions that are asked often at the job interview. Wether you can hear them exaclty the same way as here, that's reasonable, but all of them has the same meanings. Only thing you need to remebmer before answering to any question is to Keep it as simple as possible, to be brutally honest and have original asnwer that fits your personality!

Out there is just few basic questions and may sound different. Their idea is simple. Get known as many individuals as possible as soon as possible. Weird? Well they'll mostly call you for interview on the phone, and when you're skilled enough - THEN you might start to pray for being chosen for interview. Just before reding this article you might find helpful to see interview #1 article as well.

1. How many interviews did you experienced?
-Here I would suggest you to be honest but very original. Figure out something like:
Well, I don't know how many, to be honest with all of you, but Be sure that I've prepared well for this one. (Smile) - Knock out -

2. Why do you study (this) University? (if applicable)
- Try to figure out, what does most of students think of their school? Well, some of you already know the answer - it's so obvious. Most of the people will answer something like: "Because I love it!", "Because I have to", "Because I want to become MBA and successful software engineer" or whatever simillar.. This is the question where you can be easily funny and original and answer with:

Well, I'm studying economics and there is statistic that shows you more than 70% of students are girls at this school! So from 100 people out of class you could have about 70 girls to look at during the lesson. And not even there! Would that be interesting for you to study there? - I hope so" - Say it as a joke but brutally honest joke  -

3. Achievement that you're proud of?
Very good question, where you can easily show how intense motivation you already have. They are just trying to measure your global motivation and your desire to do whatever it takes to succeed. Here you could mention sports, hobbies, or even positive deviation! Think of something original.

Excuse me for being expressive, but I remember this strange fight with millions of white weird snakes rushing somewhere along the darkness! I've just won the race! And I was born! - KO

4. Past work experience?
Well, since you're applying for your first job without a past experience , then you need to be brutally honest and tell them truth. At least they will know that you're truthful.

Well Mr.John, I'm already here to get work experience without any other background from this field. But since I'm in school I'm looking for nothing else than experience."

And if they will argue about the money, be brutally determined that you don't care for money now! You care only for experience!! Even they won't belive you - but do you really care?

And remember - If you're shy kind of person, you need to practise all these questions with your friends. Ask them to interview you and give you honest feedback about your body language, about your smile, face expressions. Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, then just take any camera and record yourself.
Replay and learn. Replay and learn, replay, replay and master!

Getting motivation right

How to get everyone in your business motivated

Are you a coach, an employer or simply interested in new input on how to motivate others? Understanding what motivates you is a vital first step towards gaining an insight into what motivates others. The free eBook “Getting Motivation right” will give you the information you need to make a significant impact and increase the motivation within your team, as well as some useful practical tools.

If you are keen to gain some understanding of how motivation works and what you can do practically, then take a look at the following book excerpt. It is written from the employer’s perspective, but also applies to all the rest of us. And who knows, maybe you can even bring some of these practical steps into use at work tomorrow.

Remove Barriers

To enhance motivation, there are different steps to consider. The first one is to remove as many factors as possible that are likely to de-motivate or get in the way of motivation. Attempting to motivate staff while there are de-motivating factors in play can be compared to trying to run up an escalator which is going downwards. In other words, every positive step that you take is likely to be wiped out by the negative ones that are already present.

To remove negative factors you should start by focusing on yourself and identify which factors both motivate and de-motivate you. From this you will be able to identify changes that you can make to increase your own personal motivation.

An additional way to remove barriers is to optimize the general working conditions that can act as de-motivators if they do not satisfy the staff’s needs or requirements. Getting these right will not, in themselves, motivate staff, but getting them wrong will tend to de-motivate them. Questions you could ask yourself include: Have I created a pleasant physical environment for my employees? Is the timetable flexible enough? Do my people feel that they are being paid fairly for the work that they do? Does the communication within the business work well?

Identify Key Motivators

The next step is to identify the key motivators for your staff/team. This is best done during a one-to-one meeting, either during one of a regular series of meetings, or as part of an annual appraisal process or in a separate individual session.

Although everybody has their own set of priorities, it is nevertheless useful to appreciate that there tends to be some common ground amongst many people. As an example, in one piece of research where workers were asked: “What are the things that make you feel good at work?”

The top 10 responses were: Achievement, Working with others, Recognition, Helping Others, Varied and Interesting Work, Financial Reward, Good Working Atmosphere, Empowerment, Solving Problems and Physical Environment.

It is worth noting that the top places are held by ‘Achievement’, ‘Recognition’ and ‘Working with others’, whereas ‘Financial Reward’ came out at only 6th in this list.

Although it is not always desirable to generalise, it is also possible to find some useful ways of grouping people.

For instance, having classified motivators into Positive and Negative, it is also possible to recognise that people will generally fall into one of two groups: Those that generally move ‘towards’ positive motivators and those that have a tendency to move ‘away from’ negative motivators.

Identifying which of these categories people fall into will give a clue as to the likely things that will best motivate them – whether they will be best motivated by the promise of something good or the threat of something bad.

Give Individual Attention

As you are now aware of the motivating factors for each member of your team, you will be able to have meaningful discussions with them about how their needs and desires might be better accommodated within the overall business.

For instance, it might be possible to make specific adjustments to their job, or the way that they work, that will make a significant difference to their personal motivation and thus to their productivity within the company.

From these discussions you might also find ways to improve the overall structure of the business, or perhaps introduce procedures or policies that can have an important affect on everybody within the business.

On the whole, employees respond well to a caring employer. If you show a genuine interest in them as people, rather than just as instruments of the business, they will be more likely to return this attention as extra commitment both to you and to your business. Getting to know your employees on a personal level, where you take an interest in their families, their outside interests, etc. will build a bond that helps people feel valued as individuals.

Remember that the first two key motivators on the list are ‘Connection and Belonging’ and ‘Independence’. Generally, most people want to feel part of something, and yet also be treated as a valuable individual in their own right. Although it is important to appreciate that not everyone has the same needs in these two areas, ensuring that you consider carefully how you can make them feel both part of the team and special in their own right, according to your findings from step ‘B’ and your own observations, will help to create the optimum balance.

All in all, staff and managers who feel appreciated, recognised and stimulated will stay with you and perform for you. Those who don’t – won’t. Motivate your staff properly and fully and they will grow, develop and thrive and they will help your business to do the same.

If you want to get to know additional motivation tools, take a look at the whole eBook “Getting Motivation right”. It is free to download.

Draw your goals! Forget about boring writing and reading

Recently I have been in touch with some people from the management business and they have been struggling with motivation of their employers in writing down their emotional or technical goals. Not even because they don't know what they want to get out of their life's, but also because they don't care! Dismissed.

"Ouch"! Tough? Dismissed for not writing goals?
Well, yes. Today's markets are called - get prepared or leave!

In some companies you need to have emotional and technical goals written down in order to be successful and do your job properly. Even If you don't have any, the company has them - and you're part of it whether you like it or not. No matter whether you're writer, tailor or web designer you need to plan your work and brainstorm it in some cases.

But what If I'm self employed?

Well then you need your business plan twice as much. Mostly the Business plan and goals, are these days the one and same thing. Think of it... Twice

I found out that many people who are "motivated enough" to write their goals down, they just forget in few weeks (or even days) that they've just written down something like this. Some of them print it out and put it on the wall in their living room or any room they spend most of their time. Excellent! But what do most of them really do? Nothing. They just don't read it. Being honest I've had a lot of written goals and I forgot about them in few weeks. It happened to me as well. Mostly I've "survived" to read them every week at least once for few months. That's how many famous writers and successful business starters request you to do in order to be successful in anything! and Then? Whaat? Mostly I've just found some document 4 months old with my written goals somewhere in the folder collecting dust - and found out that I've reached about 7/10 of it. So I've just got bored of never-ending planning whatever it is. I've managed to share with you my new Idea how to visualize them. And make it work for you for 100%!

Here I would like to give you example how do It and make your planning and writing your goals more effective. I guess have you heard about personal improvement and goals settings? If not, then there is a lot of books and online ebooks that you could easily get for free or for few 'bucks'. But I'm not here now, to tell you all the same stuff that most of them will advice. There is millions of ways how you could write down your goals and plan your future. No matter whether it's close or far future. I am now going to show you one of my examples on how to DRAW your business plan.

Out there in the world, there is a lot of companies using so called BPM Business process management tools that helps them to visualize their plans and processes among company. So I've decided to use this model and draw my written goals. Take a look at this example.

Blogging Process2

You can clearly and easily see that there are some figures, squares and triangles. This is just an example that I have created to Illustrate any goal you might have.

How I did it:

1. Sit and write down you goals, (better would be at least 8of them) that you would like to achieve in upcoming 6 - 12 months.

2. Proofread them. Make sure you are satisfied with them.

3. Don't make foolish mistake and never plan unreal goals. Plan everything that is possible for you to achieve no matter what's going on.

4 Now open any software or painting 'device' that you want to use. I've introduced some software here just few rows down.

5. Draw them in your own way that makes sense for you.

6. Stick it somewhere where you look often - in order to never forget your plan/goal

For instance this may be example of 10 goals that you can write down to fulfill your blogging dream. In this structure you can easily visualize what you want and take notes where you are NOW and where are you heading and focus on that one blue square that is your actual goal.

What tools should you use? As you see I've used something very different than simple and famous paint.exe in MSWindows. I used Powerdesigner which is process modeling software for data and enterprise architecture. This might be famous among Oracle employers, they usually create database architectures in it and database infrastructures in it.

But feel free to use any other software just like Aris Express which you can download for free to use for few days or even buy professional one, but I wouldn't recommend you to waste hundreds or thousands of dollars for just drawing. (Or just Google BPM software for free)

You may use pen or pencil. Use color markers and draw your own process of your goals. Put it somewhere on the visible place that you look sometimes. Maybe put it on the TV screen.. :) or just above it. Or you can easily draw it in any painting software that your Mac, Linux or windows has.

Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!

Motivation and exercise

Motivation and exercise?

Sometimes there is need for both. But it's no doubt when you do exercise then you could be easily motivated. Why so? Motivation and life happines comes from movement and nature of every human being. It's very natural for us people to move. Don't believe me?

Movement and regular exercise is provider of Endorphins to our body. I guess you have already heard about Morphine?
Endorphin is actually Endogenous Morphine which is produced by hypothalamus in your body during exercise, eating spicy food, falling in love or orgasm. This Endogenous morphine produce feeling of well being and that's why people who are taking regular exercise seems pretty well and motivated.

When you feel better, you can better focus your energy in achieving your goals. Stop wasting your time reading anymore motiavtional crap. Stand up and do some pushups now! Run arround your block and take shower have some fresh fruit and the feeling of well being is almost guaranteed.
